CM HD Kumaraswamy wins trust vote even as BJP walks out

Bengaluru, May 25: Vidhan Soudha in Bengaluru saw another string of floor test which cited the Congress-JD(S) coalition an out and out wins. All the BJP MLAs staged a walkout after BS Yeddyurappa challenged Kumaraswamy to waive farmer loans by Monday. He added that the party would stage a statewide protest if CM Kumaraswamy did not deliver on this promise.

With BJP candidate backing out of the speaker post as BJP cited to maintain the dignity of the post and Congress candidate, Ramesh Kumar became the speaker of the Vidhan Soudha. The floor test however also witnessed a high voltage drama with BJP walking out in between of the session.

Seeking vote of confidence in the state assembly, Congress JD(S) proved a majority with 117 seats. The BJP walked out of the Karnataka assembly just before the trust vote, throwing a dare at chief minister HD Kumaraswamy. "Let's see how long you last," said BS Yeddyurappa, as he staged a dramatic walkout from the House.

Giving the confidence motion in the state assembly, CM HD Kumaraswamy lighted the matchstick with questioning the mandate of the opposition party in the elections. Hitting out words the CM of Karnataka instigated a furious remark claiming that the party had the full majority with the coalition from Congress, JD (S), BSP and independent parties coming together and forming the government with 118 seats. Speaking ahead of the trust vote, Chief Minister HD Kumaraswamy said that his decision to enter into an alliance with the Congress was taken for the future of JD(S)

After the much emotionally dramatic speech quoted by the Chief Minister of Karnataka HD Kumaraswamy, opposition leader BS Yeddyurappa warned of a statewide protest if the CM HD Kumaraswamy does not waive farm loans in 24 hours. BS Yeddyurappa stated that Kumaraswamy had promised to waive farm loans worth Rs 53,000 crore, including the ones borrowed from nationalized banks. Even as the floor test was underway, the BJP walked out of the assembly.

BS Yeddyurappa-led BJP government in Karnataka had collapsed on May 19, with the chief minister announcing his decision to resign without facing a trust vote, with the numbers not in his favor. The BJP has a total of 104 MLAs as against 117 of coalition partners ( Congress has 78 MLAs, JD-S 37, BSP one and two independents)
