Bengaluru, June 16: India on Friday registered a commanding victory over Afghanistan in a maiden test match by an innings and 262 runs. Notably, Afghanistan lost all of their 20 wickets on the second day of their historic test debut and lost the match.

India posted a mammoth total of 474 in their first innings and spinner Ravichandran Ashwin led the bowling, dismantling Afghanistan's batsmen on Friday to dismiss the visitors for a mere score of 109 runs in the post-lunch session. Enforcing follow-on, Indian bowlers destroyed the Afghanistan batting line-up in the second innings for only 103 runs.

While Umesh Yadav picked up three wickets in the second innings and that led him to achieve a milestone in his bowling career as he completed 100 Test wickets. With this, he became the 22nd Indian Test bowler and 8th Indian pace bowler to claim a hundred wickets.

Earlier, in the match, India compiled a sizeable 474 in their first inning after winning the toss and electing to bat first. Opener Shikhar Dhawan and Murali Vijay both scored their centuries respectively on Day 1 which helped India to score 347.

Resuming their first innings on the overnight score of 347, India compiled a sizeable 474 in the first session. Hardik Pandya blended temperament with a touch of aggression to compile a superbly paced 71 runs. KL Rahul scored 45 runs.

The 24 wickets that fell on the second day in Bengaluru (20 Afghanistan, 4 India) are the most to have fallen in a day of test cricket.
