Gesture of humanity! Manipur Governor Najma Heptulla donates one day salary to flood relief fund

Imphal, June 16: Situation in the Northeast states is worsening as the terrifying flood has completely disrupted the normal life of the people. Liberating relief camps have been continuously sent to places so that people are safe and sound. Taking cognizance of the situation, Manipur Governor Najma Heptulla announced that she will donate her one day salary to the people affected in flood.

 

Talking to the media at Raj Bhavan, Manipur Governor Najma Heptulla said that her staff and she will donate their one day salary to the relief fund. She also appealed to the people of the state who can afford whatever they can to donate and contribute to help flood-affected people who are in need.

 

At present, Manipur Government has released an immediate relief assistance of Rs 3.2 crore for the areas reeling under flash flood in the State. So far, six persons, including three children, have died in the flood, according to the State Directorate of Relief and Disaster Management.

Secretariat relief and disaster management department has declared alert of floods and landslides with the prediction of heavy to very heavy rain at few places with extremely heavy rain at some isolated places of Manipur. The declaration states that the rainfall may continue till June 15 as per the Indian meteorological department. The IMD has instructed all the deputy commissioners to take up precautionary measures.

The incessant rainfall has created much havoc in many parts of Manipur triggering landslides and inundating low lying areas. The landslide has also created traffic on the national Highway blocking by debris. However, the traffic has been taken off and safety measures have also been taken for swift movement of vehicles.

Flood water has overflowed at some parts of the riverbanks of the major rivers like Nambul, Iril and Imphal Rivers. This has led to submerge of many government offices, schools and human inhabited areas in Imphal East, Imphal West, Bishnupur and Thoubal Districts. Disaster management department has issued alert for flood and landslide.
