New York, June 16: The United Nations International Court of Justice is all set to hold the public hearings on June 27 in an urgent case between Qatar and the United Arab Emirates.

Notably, on Monday this week, Qatar dragged the United Arab Emirates, one of the key ally in Arab quartet to the United Nations’ International Court of Justice over describing the diplomatic crisis and stringent economic sanctions as a violation of human rights.

Arab Quartet including the UAE, Saudi Arabia, Bahrain and Egypt in June last year have cut the diplomatic ties with Qatar and imposed stringent economic sanctions on it over supporting extremism or terrorism. The stringent economic sanctions led to a massive Gulf crisis.

Taking a cognizant into the plea of Doha, the UN’s top court will hold public hearings on June 27 in an urgent case between Qatar and the United Arab Emirates, over human rights violations and discrimination.

The UN’s International Court in a statement on Friday said, “Doha's lawyers will lay out their arguments before the International Court of Justice on June 27 at a three-day hearing in which Abu Dhabi will also be given the chance to respond.”

In June last year Saudi Arabia, the UAE, Bahrain and Egypt cut the diplomatic ties with Qatar and imposed stringent economic sanctions on it over supporting extremism or terrorism. The four countries expelled Qataris, and the country's only land border with Saudi Arabia has been closed for the past year. On the other side, Qatar has repeatedly rejected the allegations quoting is a ‘baseless’.

Importantly, the ICJ is the UN's highest judicial organ.
