Pollution favorite city “New Delhi” to launch three pilot projects to curb toxic air

New Delhi, July 13: Over the past few years New Delhi has been in news for all the unpleasant reasons mainly receiving a distinction in air pollution. Environmental issues have triggered an outrage among the people considering the growing pollution and nature hazard pertaining to urbanization.

 

The airborne particles and toxic chemicals that make up the smog have choked the 19 million residents of the metropolitan area, where just breathing the air was, at its worst, like smoking plenty cigarettes. To overcome the disaster of high amounts, the Environment Ministry has lined up a collection of measures to tackle Delhi’s deadly air pollution, which goes from bad to worse during the months of November and December.

Delhi is set to launch three pilot projects to tackle dust pollution, mounting filters on buses, using dust separation chemical sprays and installing equipment to suck in particulate matters. The ministry also said the National Clean Air Programme (NCAP) is likely to be finalized by the end of this month and sent to states so that they can make plans to curb air pollution.

The National Environmental Engineering Research Institute will run the pilot project on installing equipment to suck in particulate matters. The Environment Ministry will undertake these projects in association with the Delhi government.

Elaborating on mechanical sweeping, the official said Delhi currently has 34 such machines. By September, Delhi will have 74. In the case of water sprinkling, there are around 175 tankers. However, 40 are under procurement which will become any day and by September, there is a plan to procure 185 more water tankers.
