Raipur, August 14: Chhattisgarh Governor Balram Das Tandon passed away this noon due to a heart attack in Dr. B.R. Ambedkar Hospital. He was 90. Due to the Governor, Chhattisgarh government has declared 7 days mourning.


 

CM Raman Singh has paid his condolences by saying, “Regarding and homage to Governor Shri Balramji Das Tandon ji, his demise is irreparable damage to Chhattisgarh and the whole country. Mr. Tandon was always dedicated to protecting democratic values, and he was also jailed during the emergency. May God give peace and tranquility to his soul.

Governor Tandon felt uneasy this morning following which he was rushed to the state-run Dr. B R Ambedkar Memorial Hospital here, the governor's secretary, Surendra Kumar Jaiswal said.

 

Tandon was one of the founder members of the Jansangh which later became the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), he became the governor of Chhattisgarh in July 2014. During his long political career, he has served on various posts, including as deputy chief minister of Punjab. The six-time MLA was also jailed from 1975 to 1977 during Emergency.
