Maharashtra CM appeals for helping Kerala flood victims, State extends Rs 20 cr

Mumbai, Aug 18: Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadanvis Saturday announced Rs 20 crore as urgent help to Kerala flood victims. The state government is coordinating with various social and voluntary organisations to immediately send food and other help to the flood-hit people of Kerala. Fadanvis appealed to all the communities in the state to extend all possible help to them.

The heavy rains that lashed Kerala from last some days have played havoc in the state resulting in massive loss of life and property besides uprooting lakhs of people from their homes and hearths. The deluge has engulfed most areas in the state. There has been a continuous flow of help from all over the country. The Maharashtra government has also announced Rs 20 crore as urgent help to Kerala. The government is constantly in touch with the Kerala government and providing all the required cooperation to them.

A meeting of all officers of the state disaster management cell was held with the initiative of state secretariat in this regard today. A special unit was set up and given the responsibility of coordinating and executing the relief work.

Supply food for the flood affected people of Kerala was the top priority and in view of this the state government has established contacts and coordinated with various social, voluntary organisations and commercial establishments to supply food to Kerala people. MCHI-Credai has provided food worth Rs 1.5 crore. Rajasthani Welfare Association gave Rs 51 lakh and Jito International announced help of Rs 51 lakh. So far, 11 ton food has been made available and out of that 6 ton will be despatched by today evening.
