Interlinking of rivers necessary for better water management: Union Minister Nitin Gadkari

New Delhi, Aug 20: Underlining the importance of the interlinking of rivers, Union Water Resource Minister Nitin Gadkari said that the long-pending venture is necessary for enhancing water and food security of the country.

Addressing the 32nd Annual General meeting of National Water Development Agency(NWDA), Minister stated that river interlinking will reduce the risk of floods He further added that interlinking of rivers will provide relief to drought-hit areas.

Commenting on the ongoing five projects of river networking, Gadkari mentioned that Narendra Modi led central government is committed to the hassle-free roll-out of interlinking. The Minister assured that the government will take all possible steps to build consensus among the concern state governments.

On this occasion. Mos Arjun Ram Meghwal, Irrigation Minister of various states and other officials were present. Interlinking of rivers was the pet project of late former Prime Minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee.
