Saudi continues to face missile attacks from Iran-backed Houthi rebels

Riyadh, September 17: Missile attacks in every week shows up that the Houthi rebels have ramped up their campaign against Kingdom! Notably, Iran-backed Houthi rebels on Saturday fired a Badr ballistic missile targeting the Saudi Arabia's industrial city of Jizan. Fortunately, no casualties and damages to the property occurred.

 

Colonel Turki al-Maliki, the chief of Saudi-led military coalition in Yemen in a statement said, “The Saudi air defence forces on Saturday intercepted and destroyed a Badr ballistic missile.” “The missile was launched at the Industrial City of Jizan by Houthis and as it was timely intercepted, no casualties or damage were recorded,” he added.

This comes almost a week after Iran-backed Houthi rebels fired a ballistic missile targeting Saudi Arabia's southwestern region of Asir. In the attack, Saudi Arabian troopers were injured. Importantly, the Iran-backed Houthis have ramped up missile attacks against Saudi Arabia in recent months. This is the 166th incident when Houthi rebels fired ballistic missiles targeting residential areas of Kingdom since the year 2015.

Yemen has been embroiled in a violent conflict between the government headed by President Abd Rabbuh Mansur Hadi and the Yemeni forces. Since 2015, the Saudi-led coalition has been carrying out airstrikes against the Yemeni forces at Hadi’s request.

An estimated 6,00,000 civilians have been killed or wounded since the beginning of the Saudi-led campaign. Yemen is also suffering from the disastrous outbreak of cholera due to which 2180 civilians are killed while suspect cases have reached to 8,72,415 in the time period of 6 months.
