New York, September 22: India has called off the meeting between External Affairs Minister Sushma Swaraj and Pakistani counterpart Shah Mahmood Qureshi in New York. The meeting between the two Ministers was scheduled to take place in New York later this month on the sidelines of United Nations General Assembly- UNGA.

External Affairs Ministry spokesperson, Raveesh Kumar in a statement said, the decision was taken in view of the brutal killings of India's security personnel by Pakistan-based entities and the recent release of a series of twenty postage stamps by Pakistan glorifying a terrorist and terrorism.

He said that these incidents confirm that Pakistan will not mend its ways. Kumar said, now it is obvious that behind Pakistan’s proposal for talks to make a fresh beginning, the evil agenda of Pakistan stands exposed and the true face of the new Prime Minister of Pakistan Imran Khan has been revealed to the world in his first few months in office.

He said that any conversation with Pakistan in such an environment would be meaningless.

The spokesperson said that the decision to agree to Pakistan’s proposal for a meeting was in response to the spirit reflected in the letters from the new Prime Minister and Foreign Minister of Pakistan.
