Kolkata, March 14: Seems like the opposition is having a hard time with its party leaders as news of joining BJP is doing the rounds. As the parties will now set its agenda straight before the voters to woo them in the upcoming elections, some are leaving the party alleging lack of national interest by the party.

IIn West Bengal’s ‘Mahabharata’ politics, Mamata Banerjee gets a shock as TMC MLA ‘Arjun’ Singh joins BJP.

Giving a major jolt to West Bengal CM Mamata Banerjee, Trinamool Congress MLA Arjun Singh on Thursday joined the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) ahead of the Lok Sabha elections. Arjun Singh joined the party at a press conference in New Delhi, attended by BJP national general secretary Kailash Vijayvargiya and party's state election committee convenor Mukul Roy.

After joining BJP, Singh said that the TMC which once stood for ‘Maa Mati Manush’ is now about "money money money." "I have worked for Mamata Banerjee (West Bengal Chief Minister and TMC chief) for 30 years but when 40 jawans of our country died, she gave a statement which hurt me. When there was airstrike on terror training camps, Mamata raised questions on whether terrorists were really killed. I was hurt and wondered who I had been supporting. The ‘Maa Mati Manush’ party is now about ‘money money money," Singh said after being inducted into the BJP.

Mukul Roy, once a close ally of Mamata Banerjee, was instrumental in bringing Singh to the BJP fold. "The message is clear that Mamata raj is coming to an end. You have seen the Mahabharata. Arjun is now in the BJP. Soumitra Khan, Anupam Hazra, have all joined the BJP. This is a trailer. The entire film is yet to be released," Roy said.

Kailash Vijayvargiya, BJP's General Secretary incharge of West Bengal, said his party's efforts will to bring all the good leaders from other parties. "He is a senior leader and he will tell himself why he is disheartened with the TMC. It is important that the sentiment of Bengal is conveyed by him. There is a wave of Modi in the minds and hearts of the people of Bengal. Entries like these will continue," he said.

Arjun Singh, the four-time MLA from Bhatpara in North 24 Parganas, was expecting to get a party ticket from Barrackpore Lok Sabha constituency but Mamata has fielded former Union minister Dinesh Trivedi from the seat. On Tuesday, while announcing party candidates, Mamata had hinted that some of the party leaders who wanted Lok Sabha tickets, would defect to other parties.
