The response of ‘Neighbors’ to a call by Prime Minister designate Narendra Modi is something no one has thought about. Leaders of Afghanistan, Bangladesh, Bhutan, Maldives, Mauritius, Nepal, Pakistan and Sri Lanka have confirmed attending PM designate Narendra Modi’s swearing in ceremony. This is not an overnight process.

Narendra Modi and BJP's track record in BJP ruled states and both nationally and globally applauded Gujarat Model of governance has been a distinctive factor which has made Narendra Modi an icon of development and prosperity. Like India, the developing nations in South Asia are struggling with same issues of corruption, poverty and economic slowdown. With the emergence of Modi as an advocator and performer for Good Governance and Development, the Hopes of regional peace and development are swaying around India and its neighbors.

The response of ‘Neighbors’ to a call by Prime Minister designate Narendra Modi is something no one has thought about. Leaders of Afghanistan, Bangladesh, Bhutan, Maldives, Mauritius, Nepal, Pakistan and Sri Lanka have confirmed attending PM designate Narendra Modi’s swearing in ceremony.

Especially, a Congress backing leftist sect in media and the Congress party itself, are stunned by the warm gestures by all Neighbors which has make them to go on back foot putting them in a strategy-stuck position. The impact of relaxing of stressed relation is visible as the Pakistan government has started the process to release Indian prisoners in Pakistan jails and Sri Lanka is positively thinking to release Indian fishermen.

Narendra Modi reportedly conveyed his wish to invite all heads of governments of SAARC countries for his swearing-in ceremony to President Pranab Mukherjee. A champion of foreign policy, Pranav, immediately sensed the impact and responded to the idea.

Modi, in his first ever foreign policy masterstroke, invited all members of South Asian Association for Regional Cooperation (SAARC).

Some of the ‘Guests’ have sparked row in India through some regional players. But the thumping majority in LS polls to the BJP not only gives the party a rejuvenation but also provide the nation a most stable and responsive government with a proud status across the globe, which is more notable. The very signs of the empowered India can be seen in the spontaneous calls and messages congratulating Narendra Modi for the spectacular success. India’s foreign ministry is also responding to Modi’s open and candid gesture towards the neighbors and nations worldwide. Indian foreign ministry spokesman Syed Akbaruddin’s tweets are evident that how the bureaucracy is responding to Modi before he swears in.

The official spokesperson of the Ministry of External Affairs, Syed Akbaruddin, confirmed that Pakistan Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif, Sri lankan President Mahindra Rajapkasa, Nepal’s Nepal Prime Minister Sushil Koirala, Speaker of Bangladesh Jatiya Sangsad (Parliament) Dr Shirin Sharmin Chaudhury, Afghanistan President Hamid Karzai, Bhutan’s Prime Minister Tshering Tobgay, Nepal’s Prime Minister Sushil Koirala and Maldives President Abdulla Yameen Abdul Gayoom and Mauritius Prime Minister Navin Ramgoolam will attend huge open air function of Narendra Modi swearing in which will be witnessed by 3000 high profile guests.

 

Even though, the red-faced Congress, a certain posed media sect and some Pundits are trying to showcase the response by the South Asian nations, interestingly the media in those nations have encouraged their leaders to visit India and build good relations with India.

Pakistan Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif was among first to congratulate Narendra Modi on his victory. Nawaz Sharif called Modi and congratulated for the grand victory in elections.Sharif told Modi that he was observing the Lok Sabha elections in India from beginning and invited Narendra Modi to visit Pakistan. Responding to Sharif’s friendly gestures Modi told him that during his election campaign, he had clearly stated that India and Pakistan will wage a war against poverty.

Sri Lanka media says that Sri Lanka President Mahindra Rajapkasa was also one of the first world leaders to call Modi to congratulate him on his party's landslide victory. Soon after the call, Modi responded with a tweet to thank President Rajapaksa for his call: "It was wonderful speaking to you earlier today. I look forward to strong relations between Sri Lanka and India." In the phone call to Mr. Modi, President Rajapaksa said that the Government looks forward to working with the new administration to further strengthen relations between the two countries.

The Sri Lanka president has asked Chief Minister of the Northern Provincial Council Justice C.V. Wigneshwaran to accompany him at New Delhi.

Bhutan PM Lyonchhen said, “It is with great pleasure that I send my warmest felicitations and Tashi Delek to Your Excellency for your overwhelming electoral victory at the general elections and on your appointment as the Prime Minister of India.”

After a call for wishes from President of Nepal Ram Baran Yadav, Prime Minister Sushil Koirala and former PM Baburam Bhattarai, Narendra Modi on twitter expressed gratitude and said: Nepal is an old & deeply valued friend. We are committed to strengthening our relations with Nepal in various spheres.

Without wasting any time, Bangladesh Premier Sheikh Hasina also called Narendra Modi congratulating him on his resounding victory and wished that relations between the two countries will grow under his leadership. On May 16, Bangladesh PM, in a warm letter said that with the kind of people’s mandate given to their respective parties they can work together to take the bilateral relationship to “increasingly greater heights.”

“I am delighted to see a great friend of Bangladesh leading an extremely friendly country, India, in the coming days,” Hasina had said in her letter to Modi. “I hope that you would find my country your second home and first destination for your official visit abroad,” she had said.

Lauding Modi, Hasina said “the decisive verdict given by the people of your great country is a strong testimony to your dynamic, inspiring and visionary leadership qualities and manifestation of the trust and confidence reposed in you by the people of the largest democracy in the world.”

Similarly Afghan President Hamid Karzai on last Friday congratulated Narendra Modi. The Afghanistan Presidential Palace media office following a statement said, “President Hamid Karzai congratulated the people of India on Bharatiya Janata Party’s victory under Narendra Modi in India’s 2014 parliamentary elections.” The statement further added, “President Karzai called India a great and historic friend of Afghanistan and hoped that good and friendly relations would be further enhanced and strengthened between the two countries under the new Indian government.”

“The President wished success for Mr. Narendra Modi and happiness and prosperity for the brotherly and friendly people of India,” the statement said.

Both Karzai and Modi shared a warm tweeter dialogue when Indian consulate in Heart was attacked recently.

Bhutan’s Prime Minister Lyonchhen Tshering Tobgay sent a congratulatory message to Modi in which he said that PM elect Narendra Modi’s assumption of this high office is a clear testimony of the trust and confidence that the people of India have in him. Lyonchhen wrote that he was confident that India’s new PM elect will also place a high importance to the Bhutan-India relations and work to further strengthen it. Lyonchhen said that he looked forward to working closely with the Indian PM elect in this regard.

The President of Maldives Mohamed Nasheed wished Modi and tweeted that he looked forward to working with him for a strong South Asia. Shri Modi stated that he values India’s relation with Maldives and will strengthen ties even further.
Mauritius PM Navin Ramgoolam, who is outside SAARC has also extended his greetings to Modi and is attending the swearing in ceremony of Narendra Modi, the function which is turning in a global event.

By inviting leaders of all the SAARC countries, and now as all the members and India’s close neighbors are attending the Prime Minister’s swearing in ceremony, Narendra Modi has successfully sent a message to the world leaders that India will no more be a silent and impartial player in world politics.

Well sensing this, The U.S. has welcomed Modi and his yet-to-formed government’s initiative to invite SAARC leaders to attend the swearing-in ceremony.

State Department Spokesperson Jen Psaki said, "Broadly speaking, we welcome increased engagement between India and Pakistan and their leaders and other leaders in the region and India's engagement with its neighbours leading up to the inauguration,"

The SAARC nations are believed to be the cultural mates of India. The united map of ancient India shows all the SAARC nations as a one-time inherent part of the cultural India.

Modi’s first ever foreign policy achievement has indirectly made the minds come nearer which are culturally connected. The region of SAARC, with an active participation and support to each other became stronger and unified, will definitely bring peace with stability in the region which is beneficial for the overall development of the South Asia.

Modi has availed a substantive base for India in the South Asia which was absent due to a dubious foreign policy of the dynastic Congress and the paralyzed UPA Government. India’s absence in South Asia region politics was equally confusing for the ‘Neighbors’ who always expected India to be their prudent Big Brother.
