CM Fadnavis, Nirmala Sitharaman, Piyush Goyal visited Elphinstone Stampede site; Indian Army will help build new foot over bridges

Mumbai, October 31: Mumbai- the city mourned over the cruel deaths of the Mumbaikars when Elphinstone stampede occurred. A month passed by and we are back to our normal lives. It was saddening to watch the videos that circulated all over, read the news of deaths. Taking the note of this incidence, Indian Army will help to build foot over bridge at Elphinstone. 

To mark the one month passed to the deadly incident, Railway Minister Piyush Goyal, Defence Minister Nirmala Sitharaman, Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis visited the Elphinstone station. CM fanavis said that the Elphinstone bridge will be rebuilt by January 31, 2018. Also Defense Minister agreed to the views expressed by CM Fadnavis. Rather three new foot over bridges will be built. “We are taking the Army’s help in building a new FOB at the Elphinstone Road station and at two other suburban train stations in Mumbai,” said CM Fadnavis.

 

Army has come and seen, inspected and assessed where the bridge is going to be built, they will be there at every stage of the work, said Defence Minister Nirmala Sitharaman.

The deadly stampede occurred on 29 September where many got killed at Elphinstone station. After the stampede, railway officials posted police personnel to manage the crowd on busy platforms, evicted hawkers from suburban train stations and started speeding up infrastructure projects on suburban network.
