Bhubaneswar, December 21: Social issues have garnered quite a lot of attention these days. Developments in all sectors have become the prime focus. The government at the national and state level whereas Municipal Corporation offices at the local level have strived hard to make reforms in all the possible sectors. Other feather added to the coat of progress is that the Bhubaneshwar Municipal Corporation is opening a public toilet for the third gender.

An appreciating move, Bhubaneshwar Development Authority is all set to open the first transgender toilet facility which will be made available at Biju Patnaik Park. This was earlier known as a Forest Park. The Public Works Department and the Public Health Engineering Department are working together in this project and will place the required specification for this project. It is believed that once the approval is received the project would be ready within a period span of a month. The complete amount of this project ranges to around 3.6 lakhs to the development authority.

Odisha will be considered as the fifth state to have a transgender toilet. Earlier the states of Bhopal, Mysore had opened a transgender toilet. The State of Bhopal has ‘changing rooms/rest room’ made available for them. There are different signage emblazed on the doors for men, women, handicapped and transgender. Besides this the Kochi Metro has laid an example by providing rest rooms for all. The officials of the new metro rail company in the south Indian port have taken an internal survey to understand the basic requirement of their new staff and come up with exclusive toilets for transgender.
