Shimla, December 24: After registering a historic win in Himachal Pradesh, the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) is set to rule the state and Chief Minister will be a five-time legislator Jairam Thakur. Finally, after a short wait, Himachal Pradesh has got its new Chief Minister who is none other than Jairam Thakur.

The Bharatiya Janata Party MLAs on Sunday unanimously accepted Jairam Thakur as Legislature party leader in a meeting that was attended by the party's Central observers Nirmala Sitharaman and Narendra Singh Tomar. CM elect Jairam Thakur will take oath on 27th of December this year.
Former CM of Himachal Pradesh, Prem Kumar Dhumal proposed Jairam Thakur’s name for Legislature party leader which was also supported by senior leaders including Shanta Kumar, Union Minister JP Nadda, Nirmala Sitharaman and Narendra Singh Tomar.
Union Minister Narendra Singh Tomar during a press conference said, “Former CM Prem Kumar Dhumal Ji proposed Jairam Thakur Ji to be elected as the Legislature party leader. Shanta Kumar Ji and JP Nadda Ji also supported this proposal.” “CM elect Jairam Thakur will take oath on 27th of December this year,” he added.
On the other saide, CM elect Jairam Thakur said, “I thank everyone, central leadership, Prem Kumar Dhumal ji who proposed my name supported by JP Nadda, Shanta Kumar ji.” "We will deliver the promises made and will work round the clock to ensure progress and development of Himachal Pradesh," he added.
Importantly, the legislators' decision came a day after Prem Kumar Dhumal, whom the BJP had named as its prospective Chief Minister 10 days before the elections, however, pulled out of the race as he lost the election to his Congress opponent Rajendra Rana.
A 52-year-old Jairam Thakur, represents Seraj, a constituency near Mandi, had earlier been the party's state unit chief and a minister in a government headed by Prem Kumar Dhumal. Before elections, party president Amit Shah announced at a public meeting on 1 November that the leader will be given a prominent role once BJP assumes power.
Interestingly, BJP has moved one step ahead in #CongressMuktBharat after historically winning the Assembly Elections in Himachal Pradesh. BJP registered a comfortable win in Himachal Pradesh after winning 44 seats of the state's 68 seats.
