North India under the grip of cold waves

New Delhi, December 31: Chilling cold is ready to give its last stroke of the year in North India. MeT has predicted cold wave conditions are very likely at isolated places over Punjab, Haryana, Chandigarh & Delhi. Other than North India, the same condition is predicted to remain in Telangana, North Interior Karnataka. 

Hilly states are already under frigid conditions. Moreover, due to dense fog air traffic and normal traffic got disrupted. Visibility level was low in Haryana, Punjab, UP and New Delhi. Many places in Jammu and Kashmir including Kargil, Leh settled to a temperature below zero degrees.

Kashmir is currently under the grip of Chillai-Kalan, a 40-day harshest period of winter when the chances of snowfall are most frequent and maximum and the temperature drops considerably. It ends on January 31 next year, but the cold wave continues even after that in the valley.

Dense fog has been observed at many places with very dense fog at isolated places during morning hours and Moderate to dense fog at many places during daytime very likely over East Uttar Pradesh. Moderate to dense fog is very likely at isolated places over Punjab, Haryana, Chandigarh & Delhi, East Madhya Pradesh, West Bengal.
