We must make efforts to preserve clean air and water for the future generations: Dr Harsh Vardhan

New Delhi, September 13: Talking about the importance of Tree plantation Environment Minister Dr Harsh Vardhan said that new and innovative ways must be thought of, to bring more areas under forest and tree cover. He further added innovation is the need of the hour. Innovation coefficient now is more important than any other coefficient.

 
 

 

While inaugurating the two-day conference on sustainable landscapes and forest ecosystem -Theory to Practice, Minister launched ‘Wood is Good’ campaign and urged people to come out with out of the box ideas for increasing the forest cover in the country and also to devise a solution to the problem of weeds. India has achieved the proposed target through many afforestation initiatives he added. The country’s forest cover has increased from 24% to 33% of the geographical area.


During the launch of the campaign, minister reminded people about the efforts of ancestors for keeping air and water clean and asked to follow the same methods to preserve it for the future generations.


Exploring issues and opportunities for the ecosystem approach to land management and discussion on the forest-PLUS programme are some of the objectives of the conference.
