Haryana sets time limit for creating Wi-Fi zone in all gram panchayats

Chandigarh, September 14: Haryana Chief Minister Manohar Lal Khattar who wants to transform Haryana digitally in line with PM Modi’s dream Digital India has set the timeline for one Wi-Fi zone in all gram panchayats. By 2019 Haryana government wants to start one Wi-Fi zone in all 6,078-gram panchayats to provide 4G services.

Haryana cabinet chaired by CM Khattar approved Information Technology (IT) and Electronic System Design and Manufacturing (ESDM) Policy-2017. The policy promises broadband connectivity to every household and Wi-Fi zone at important public places in all towns and cities.

Along with creating wifi zones, the policy also aims to develop IT sectors as over five years as key growth drivers. The policy has set a five-year goal targeting employment in the state. It aims at generation of employment for 15 lakh persons in the IT-ESDM sector. This sector’s current GDP contribution to the state is 9.4%. The policy aims to increase it to 15%.

The cabinet also approved a Start-up Policy to develop the State as a resourceful and inventive start-up hub of the country. The main thrust of the policy is on supporting and assisting the new-age innovators & entrepreneurial talents across Haryana. The proposal of Skill Development and Industrial Training Department has been approved.
