New Delhi, January 8: Aiming to create a digitalized country, the official authorities of almost every sector are striving hard to make the most of it. Providing digital connection to every possible sector, the nation is heading towards becoming a digital superpower.
The Railway authorities have decided to cater almost all the stations including rural and urban stations to deter free Wi-Fi connection. This team up to almost 8,500 stations across the country will be equipped with Wi-Fi facilities at an estimated cost of around Rs.700 crores. With the ambitious project of Digital India initiative, the national transporter has commissioned free Wi-Fi to over 216 major stations enabling the passengers to log on to the free internet service facility.
The Internet has now become a necessity as it is required by almost everyone for their daily activities. As per the details, it has been seen that around 1200 stations have the required facility to serve the rail passengers and almost 7300 stations generate internet services for the commuters and also the local people nearby rural areas and villages. The Wi-Fi facility at these stations in rural and remote areas will be offered to the local population as part of the digital makeover of rural India to promote e-governance. The booths will also enable the local people to order and receive goods through e-commerce portals.
Railway stations in rural areas will have booths with Wi-FI that will become digital hot spots offering services like digital banking, Aadhaar generation, issuing government certificates, including birth and death certificates, and filing taxes and paying bills, among others.
