Welcome them with open arms, Matunga to be India’s first ‘all-women railway station’

Mumbai, January 9: Women empowerment has been growing and that women are proving themselves in each and every sector. Whether it is driving an auto rickshaw or a train, women have shown their caliber in every nook and corner.


 

It has been seen that women empowerment has become very evident even in railway platforms. The Central Railway’s Matunga Railway station comprising of 41 lady staffers has entered the Limca Book of Records of being India’s first ‘all-women railway station’.

Fulfilling an initiative taken by the Central Railway to empower women employees, the all women Matunga Railway station has lady employees across all the departments. There are almost 17 ladies handling operations and commercial department. The station comprises of 14 booking clerks, two Railway Police Force (RPF) personnel, two announcers, four points’ persons, seven ticket checkers, and a station master. The staff has been handling overall operations of the railway station round the clock.

Appreciating the efforts of women to work and make a railway station work on their terms and condition, Piyush Goyal took to twitter to congratulate the women's spirit.
 
 
In a male dominated society where women have been shoved and deprived from their minimal rights, a number of challenges are bound to come in the way. However, it is also an opportunity to learn the tasks traditionally performed only by men.
