Boosting epitome of beauty ‘Northeast’s tourism to make India an 'all season tourist destination'

New Delhi, November 24: Enlightening the masses with the epitome of beauty and tranquility, the Northeast region has been blessed with the boon of exhibiting nature’s beauty. Enhancing the reach of the masses and making it a tourist attraction, the central government is taking several steps to improve the tourism potential of Northeastern states which may turn India into an all season tourist destination.

 

Speaking about the increasing tourist in the country, Union Tourism Secretary Rashmi Verma made these remarks while talking with reporters throughout a press conference on the sidelines of the 7th edition of the International Tourism Mart, where 52 foreign delegates from 18 countries are engaging.

Sharing statistics of foreign and domestic tourists visiting the constant state, she outlined that there’s been a good upsurge in their numbers due to better connectivity. She said that the flow of foreign tourists visiting the northeastern states increased by 16% per year while the domestic tourists visiting the region increased by 22.7% than the previous 8%, which due to better air and road connectivity mainly.

She added that globally there’s been a big change in the tourism trend now tourists rather than sightseeing prefer experiential tourism, where Northeast India comes with an advantage, rendering it a far more popular destination for foreign tourists hence.

It has been noted that the federal government of India is concentrating on developing tourism in Northeast India as this region offers across the year tourism opportunities due to its pleasant weather clubbed with rich nature.

She announced that the national government of India includes a target of doubling the quantity of tourists visiting northeast India, next 3 years.

Sharing the comparative data of tourists visiting different North-eastern states, Verma informed that Tripura received the best amount of foreign tourist among all northeastern states whereas in domestic tourist segment the state’s position was fourth in the tally.

“Sikkim had 13 lakh domestic tourists this past year and the quantity is a lot more than the state’s population. Numerous tourists are flocking the constant state capital Gangtok. To maintain with the increasing tourism activity, government of Sikkim and India want to start new destination to attract more foreign tourist,” she said.

Highlighting Government of India’s efforts to improve tourism, it has been revealed that out of total, 67 tourism projects are increasingly being executed in the United Kingdom with a price of Rs 5600 crores, 15 projects worth Rs 1300 crores lie in the Northeastern region.
