Sheikh Hasina spots hat-trick in the Bangladesh General Elections 2018; wins over 288 seats claiming massive victory

 

 

Dhaka, December 31: The Bangladesh Prime Minister, Sheikh Hasina have secured her third consecutive term with the landslide victory in the election polls scheduled yesterday. Her ruling party and its allies have won 288((AL - 268, JP -20) of the 300 parliamentary seats contested. However the opposition party, being Jatiya Oikya Front has condemned polls demanding for the fresh elections in the country. JOF have managed to secure 7 seats in the parliament, 3 of the other parties.

 

The Bangladesh Election commission says that it has heard vote ragging allegations from across the country and would investigate. “Situation that has been created by the electionacn be correctd by holding proper election under a neutral administration. We have asked the EC to cancel the elections and hold another elections as early as possible”, said the Jatiya Oikya Front leader Kamal Hossain.

 

Around 17 people have been killed in the clashes between the ruling party supporters and the opposition during the voting. "On the one hand, they are placing allegations. On the other hand, they are attacking our party workers, leaders. That is the tragedy in this country.", said Hasina in relation.

 

 

Meanwhile Awami League General Secretary Obaidul Quader asked his party men not to be revengeful to the opponent political parties following the ruling alliance's big win in yesterday's general election. “We will have to consolidate this win,” Quader said while changing views with AL members in Noakhali this morning.

 

Sheikh Hasina's Awami League has run Bangladesh since 2009, but one of the leading opposition parties has accused it of using stuffed ballot boxes. A spokesman for the Bangladesh National Party (BNP) alleged there were irregularities in 221 of the 300 seats being contested, reported the local sources. Only ruling party polling agents were present at that and several other polling centres in the second-largest city of the country.
