New Delhi, April 30: Urging people to spread the message preached by Lord Buddha, Prime Minister stressed on disseminating the message of peace and equality in society. PM Modi today took part in Buddha Jayanti celebrations.

Addressing the celebration, PM Modi stressed on carrying forward the principles of compassion, truthfulness ahead. Evils like casteism, terrorism, injustice, differentiation- the factors inhibiting the human’s growth must be left behind.
It is possible to solve the problem of the crisis we are facing in today's era, following the path of Lord Buddha, he added.
Lauding India’s ideologies, PM Modi said “we are proud that whatever ideology originated from India kept moving forward in view of the interests of the whole mankind. Service of mankind was the basis of all the ideologies served in India. Our tradition, culture & history are an evidence that we have never been the aggressors. We have never attacked any country."
The journey of Siddhartha to become Gautama Buddha is not the story of getting only Nirvana, the story is that the story of the person who attempts to remove the pain of others by his knowledge and wealth can attain Buddha, said PM Modi.
Living life with ‘evenness’ and ‘equality’ equals upto living life like a Lord Buddha, said PM Modi. The biggest message of Buddha Purnima is - If you change yourself before others change, you will also become Buddha, PM Modi insisted.
Further PM Modi recited a sweet shloka.
The time is demanding if the world is to save from crisis, Buddha's compassion, love message is the most suitable path, PM Modi said. Lord Buddha used to believe in empowering people rather than drowning in sorrows, in same way I believe that our government is moving on the same path of compassion and service, the way God Buddha showed us, he added.
Further PM Modi informed that the government has approved more than 360 Crore rupees for the Buddhist Circuit,. Further, Buddhist places are being developed in Uttar Pradesh, Bihar, Madhya Pradesh, Andhra Pradesh and Gujarat.
Speaking over culture, PM Modi said after the period of slavery, for many reasons, the task of saving our cultural heritage did not happen in the way that should have been. Keeping this in mind, our government is also working on a large vision to protect its cultural heritage and memory related to Lord Buddha.
Early in morning PM Modi greeted the devotees on the occasion of Buddha Purnima. “The teachings of Lord Buddha are extremely relevant in the 21st century. His was a life devoted to alleviating suffering and removing injustice from society. His compassion has endeared him to millions. Buddha Purnima greetings to everyone”, the PM Modi said.
