EAM Sushma Swaraj chairs interactive session on ‘Act East Policy’ to deepen ties with ASEAN countries constructively

New Delhi, May 4: Chairing an interactive session on ‘Act East Policy’, External Affairs Minister Sushma Swaraj stressed on highlighting the ‘North East Region’ along with Arunachal Pradesh as the important part of ‘Act East Policy’. 

Ministry of External Affairs spokesperson Raveesh Kumar, in a tweet said that "Involving all stakeholders in policy making! EAM @SushmaSwaraj with Chief Ministers and representatives of eight North Eastern States before chairing an interactive session on 'Act East Policy'."

 

Chief Ministers of Arunachal Pradesh, Nagaland, Mizoram, Assam, Manipur, Sikkim, Meghalaya, and Tripura Lal Thanhawla, Pema Khandu, Neiphiu Rio, Pawan Kumar Chamling, Sarbananda Sonowal, N. Biren Singh, Conrad Sangma and Biplab Kumar Deb respectively took part in the session.

The Chief Ministers will be accompanied by senior officials from the States who deal with policy issues related to the subject. CM Biplab Kumar Deb took to Twitter saying Took part in an interactive session with Chief Ministers of Northeastern States on Act East Policy in New Delhi. I thank Smt. @SushmaSwaraj ji for arranging this meeting and thank Prime Minister Shri @narendramodi ji for placing #NorthEast at the heart of #ActEastPolicy. 

 

India's Act East Policy focuses on the extended neighbourhood in the Asia-Pacific region through continuous engagement at bilateral, regional and multilateral levels. The policy aims to increase economic and military ties with the ASEAN countries and countries that are in the eastern parts of India.
