Now trace missing children through this unique ‘ReUnite’ app and unify the kids to their parents

New Delhi, June 30: Reuniting kids and children to their families has been one of the noblest works done by human mankind. In an initiative to take forward this noble deed, an app has been launched to trace and track the missing and abandoned children in India. The App ‘Reunite’ helps in unifying the missing children back to their parents.

Ministry of Commerce and Industry Minister Suresh Prabhu launched the mobile app ‘ReUnite’ on Friday. Speaking at the event, Suresh Prabhu said, that he appreciated the work being done by the NGO, BachpanBachaoAndolan & Cap Gemini for developing this app. The Minister said that this effort to reunite parents whose children have gone missing is a wonderful use of technology to address real-life social challenges.

The app is sought to be multiuser where parents and citizens can upload pictures of children, and provide detailed description like name, birthmark, address, report to the police station, search and identify missing kids. The photographs will not be saved in the mobile phone’s physical memory. Amazon Rekognition, web facial recognition service, is being used to identify missing kids. The app is available for both Android and iOS. 

Social Media has helped the common man in many ways. Use of the apps has undoubtedly brought a significant change in the people and also dwelled in creating the important revolution. Reuniting is a noble thing and doing it for the children is one of the decent and gallant need.

A deeply disturbing fact about India’s missing children is that while on an average 174 children go missing every day, half of them remain untraced. The National Crime Records Bureau (NCRB) report which was cited by the Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA) in the Parliament in March stated more than one lakh children (1,11,569 in actual numbers) were reported to have gone missing till 2016, and 55,625 of them remained untraced till the end of the year.

So this app will now be quite effective in bringing back the missing children to their parents. Apart from this the Bachpan Bachao Andolan group has been very active in the decision taken by the government and also in supporting in developing this app.

Bachpan Bachao Andolan, (BBA) is India’s largest movement for the protection of children and works along with law enforcement agencies and policymakers. BBA has played a very important role in formulation of several laws for protection of child’s rights. It began from the Nithari case in 2006 which finally culminated with the Supreme Court passing the landmark judgment in 2013 ordering that FIR has to be lodged in all cases of missing children.
