Mumbai, July 31: Don’t expect life to be a bed of roses, there will be challenges along the way said Ekta Bhyan, para-athlete when she won gold at the recent World Para Athletics Grand Prix in Tunisia and the Twitterati was in awe of her performance.


 

When you embrace the ‘Never Give Up’ attitude anything will let you stop from achieving your dreams. Ekta Bhyan has set an example highlighting the same phrase winning the gold medal for India. The wheel-chair bound para-athlete from Haryana won the yellow metal in the women's club throw F51 event and later added a bronze in the discus throw event.

Hailing from the soil of athletes ‘Haryana’! Ekta Bhyan has an inspiring story behind her courageous success. Ekta met with a road accident in 2003, where unfortunately her spinal cord got injured which resulted in paralysis of her lower body. With the motto to stay physically fit she started playing sport in 2014.

Two operations and several months in rehabilitation have made Ekta stronger than before. The turning point was when she got to meet Amit Saroha, another GoSports Para Athlete who motivated and trained her in club throw and discus throw. Her grit and determination have led her to a Silver medal at the IPC Para Athletics Grand Prix in Berlin in 2016.

Ekta was selected to represent India at the 2017 IPC Para Athletics World Championships, by the virtue of her performance (15.3m in Club throw | Rank – 7) (3.46m in Discus throw | Rank – 11) at the Selection Trials conducted in JLN Stadium in New Delhi in May 2018.

Adding feathers to her winning cap, the athlete has grabbed a Silver medal in women’s club throw and finished fourth in women’s discus throw at the2016, IPC Para Athletics Grand Prix, Berlin. Along with that, the champion has hallmarked the yellow metal in women’s club throw and bronze in women’s discus throw at 2016, Senior National Para Athletics Championships, Panchkula.
