Humanity on top: Punjab sends over 259 tonnes of food items for flood-hit people of Kerala

Chandigarh, August 27: After witnessing massive flood, Kerala is now getting back to the track slowly and steadily. Bollywood, politicians, Cabinet ministers, foreign countries and many Indian states came forward to contribute for the flood-ravaged state either financially or other relief materials. Likewise, Punjab has sent more than 259 tonnes of food items for the flood-hit people of Kerala.

 

Notably, the Punjab government has so far sent over 259 tonnes of food items including biscuits, juices, Rusk, sugar, tea, milk powder and water bottles for the flood-hit people of Kerala to ensure proper distribution of the relief material.

Giving this information Revenue and Disaster Management Minister, Sukhbinder Singh Sarkaria said the special team was sent along with the relief material on the directive of the Chief Minister Captain Amarinder Singh, who had also announced Rs 10 crore as relief for Kerala flood victims, out of which, Rs 5 crore had been transferred to the Chief Minister Relief Fund of Kerala and the remaining amount was dispatched along with the food material.

However, Punjab CM Captain Amarinder Singh has also given an assurance that if required more relief material would be sent to Kerala. The Minister, in the end, appealed to the people of Punjab to come forward to help in the relief work.

Kerala has witnessed incessant rainfall over the last few weeks, causing unprecedented flooding and landslides in several parts of the state. Prime Minister Modi also took the stock of flood situation in Kerala. So far 376 people have been killed. The United Arab Emirates has come forward to help Kerala and vowed to provide a financial aid of nearly Rs 700 crores which was later refused by centre.
