New Delhi, January 22: The Election Commission of India (ECI) has written to the Delhi Police requesting them to lodge an FIR and investigate the statement made by self claimed cyber expert Syed Shuja. This comes after the senior Congress leader Kapil Sibal addressed a conference over the issue. Shuja made some sensational claims of EVM being hacked but was unable to give any proof. He made a series of wild charges claiming he took refuge in the US after facing threats to his life for exposing EVM hacking.

Union Minister Ravi Shankar Prasad meanwhile accused the Congress of scripting the press conference and also accused senior Congress leader Kapil Sibal, who was present at the event, of monitoring the press conference on behalf of his party.

“It is a responsible matter and needs to be investigated. ECIL has a lot to answer. These are serious issues in relation to the democracy. Instead of accusing the political parties, police investigation shall be asked for”, said Kapil Sibal addressing over the issue.

“Congress has a lot of freelancers, who sometimes reach even Pakistan to take help for removing Modi Ji. They are making a hacking horror show of their possible defeat in the upcoming elections,” said BJP leader Mukhtar Abbas Naqvi responding to the allegations.

“Kapil Sibal didn't go by accident. He was sent by Congress, by Rahul Gandhi and Sonia Gandhi. The Congress gets paid to defame the nation, so they needed to send a ‘postman’ at the event,” he added further.

Congress however responding to the claims of EVM hacking said that the party demands at least 50 percent VVPATs to be used in the 2019 elections and that the Opposition has been demanding the same even before the London press conference. He also said that the Congress had nothing to do with the press conference and party leader Kapil Sibal went there in his personal capacity.

Earlier, the Election Commission of India, had said the machines were foolproof and the commission was currently analysing what legal action could be taken regarding the press conference organised by Indian Journalists' Association (Europe).

Syed Shuja, a US-based cyber expert, who claims he was a part of the team at Electronic Corporation of India Ltd (ECIL), which designed and developed the EVMs, alleged that the 2014 general elections in India were rigged and that senior BJP leader Gopinath Munde was murdered because he knew about the tampering.
