Mumbai, October 2: Ahead of the Maharashtra Assembly Elections, The Election Commission of India (ECI) has appointed 299 election observers to make the assembly election process smooth, transparent and peaceful.
138 general observers possessing the status of IAS officers have been appointed to look after the entire election process right from the filing of Nominations. Four general observers will be on duty for each 3 or 4 assembly constituencies. The role of these observers will be crucial in making the entire election process smooth and transparent.
Two police inspectors of IPS status have been appointed in order to control the law and order during the election period. These observers will play an important role in ensuring that the entire election process is carried out in peace.
In order to monitor the election expenses of the candidates and the parties, three observers of IRS (Indian Revenue Service) status have been appointed. These inspectors will look to work for each of the 3 or 4 assembly constituencies. Their role is crucial in preventing illegal election expenses. Apart from this, six such special inspectors have been appointed by the Commission at the state level.
The Election Commission is implementing various measures to make the electoral process more accessible for the disabled. Accordingly, two Divisional Commissioners have been appointed as Accessible Observer. These handy observers will control the work done for the handicapped during voting period, to register their voters and to increase their voting.
