#Bypolls2019: BJP hoists Kesariya flag in UP, Assam, Himachal, Sikkim and Gujarat

New Delhi, October 24: The Bharatiya Janata Party has has hoisted Kesariya flag in Uttar Pradesh, Assam, Himachal Pradesh, Sikkim and Gujarat in the by-elections for respective constituencies.

 
Candidate Vishal Nehria won the Dharamshala assembly seat in Himachal Pradesh defeating Independent candidate Rajesh Kumar by over 6700 votes. In Pachhad, Reena Kashyap of the BJP defeated her nearest rival former minister Gangu Ram Musafir of the Congress by a margin of 2,742 votes.
 
In Uttar Pradesh, BJP’s Suresh Chandra Tiwari won the 175 Lucknow Cantt seat while Kirat Singh won from Gangoh constituency. The BJP emerged victorious in seven seats to 11 Assembly constituencies, with its ally Apna Dal picking up an eighth in Pratapgarh. BJP has, for the first time, won two seats in Sikkim – Gangtok and Martam-Rumtek seats. Gangtok (BL) seat won by Yong Tshering Lepcha of BJP. BJP bagged 2 seats and Sikkim Krantikari Morcha one seat. The BJP's Ajmalji Thakor beat Thakor Babuji Ujamji of the Congress to the Kheralu seat by a massive 29,091 seats.
 
In Assam, the Bharatiya Janata Party won three out of the four constituencies. BJP candidate Bijoy Malakar won the Ratabari Assembly seat by a margin of 23,982 votes against Congress candidate Keshab Prasad Rajak. Malakar secured 68512 votes, while Rajak secured 44530 votes. The Congress and the BJP were neck and neck in bypolls to six Assembly seats in Gujarat, with the ruling BJP winning the Kheralu seat and leading in Amraiwadi and Lunawada.
 
BJP’s Rajen Borthakur won by a record margin of 50,184 votes against Congress’ Kartik Kurmi in Rangapara constituency. Borthakur secured 78,185 votes while Kurmi secured 28,021 votes. Meanwhile, BJP candidate Nabanita Handique sealed the deal in Jonari.
