Proving to be the biggest festival in Dubai, UAE hosts grand Diwali Celebrations

Dubai, October 25: Thanks to the large Hindu population in the country, Dubai Festival City hosted a grand Diwali celebration yesterday night, touted as the biggest in Dubai yet. With fireworks, laser shows and performances, the joys knew no bounds!

 

UAE Vice President and Prime Minister Sheikh Mohammed Bin Rashid Al Maktoum wished celebrating residents a joyful Diwali. "May the light from the festivities around the world shine a blessing of love and hope on us all," Sheikh Mohammed added in his tweet. The Diwali extravaganza at Dubai Festival City Mall under the theme, ‘Make Your Diwali Brighter Than Ever,’ saw thousands gathering to watch Bollywood dances. 

People erupted in cheers and patriotic emotions ran high as Dubai Police Band played the national anthems of both the UAE and India. The celebrations culminated with a spectacular fireworks display. Tens of thousands of festival revellers attended a series of shows and performances at different venues organised under the patronage of Dubai Festivals and Retail Establishment (DFRE). 

 

Dhanteras, observed a day before Diwali, is considered auspicious for buying gold. Many UAE residents had crowded Dubai's jewellery stores this week to purchase gold ornaments.
