Succeeding Ranjan Gogoi, Justice Sharad Bobde to be the next Chief Justice from November 18

New Delhi, October 29: Justice Sharad A Bobde will be the next Chief Justice of the country. Sharad Arvind Bobde will replace the current Chief Justice Ranjan Gogoi. The tenure of Chief Justice Ranjan Gogoi comes to an end on November 17. Bobde will be sworn in the next day i.e. 18 November. Justice Bobde will hold the post of Chief Justice till 23 April 2021.


 

Gogoi wrote a letter to the government this month, recommending that Justice SA Bobde be made his successor. Now the President has also signed the order to make SA Bobde the next Chief Justice of the Supreme Court. Justice Bobde was appointed a judge of the Supreme Court on 12 April 2013. Before coming to the Supreme Court, Justice Bobde was the Chief Justice of the Madhya Pradesh High Court.

Ranjan Gogoi was sworn in as the 46th Chief Justice of the country on October 3, 2018. He will retire on November 17. It is during his tenure that the decision of the Ayodhya land dispute is expected to come. The Chief Justice had, by convention, recommended the name of the next senior-most judge after him as his successor.
