New Delhi, October 30: Getting a clear picture of the prevailing situation of Kashmir and apprising the government’s unprecedented historic decision, the European Union delegation, which visited Kashmir on Tuesday, said that it supports India’s fight against terrorism and its efforts to bring peace. The 23-member EU delegation, on the second day of its 2-day visit to the Valley, said that they did not want Kashmir "to become second Afghanistan in terrorist activities."

Speaking the media about their visit to the Valley, the EU lawmakers said, “We, the international delegation, fully support India in its efforts for lasting peace and end of terror. We thank the Indian government and the local administration for their warm hospitality.” Further they added that terrorism in Kashmir is not only India's problem, it's a global concern and they support India for taking these steps to restore peace in the valley.”

The EU lawmakers said that the locals whom they met during their visit told them that they wanted to be treated like other citizens of the country and development in the state. They said they had come to collect facts and take stock of the ground situation in the Valley following the abrogation of provisions of Article 370, which gave special status to the state. They added, “It was an excellent visit and we had fascinating meetings with representatives of civil society. We won't interfere in Indian politics. We are here only to get facts and information.”

Slamming Pakistan, who has been trying to internationalise the Kashmir issue, the EU lawmakers, while addressing a media briefing, said that innocents were being targeted by terrorists in the Valley. Aligning the state of Jammu and Kashmir with the rest of India, it was necessary to abrogate Article 370 giving them a special status. Stopping illegal activities of money laundering, terror funding, arresting separatists from every nook and corner, the NDA government have rightly abided to their promises keeping citizens of the state at priority and moving them out from the clutches of terrorism.

Shutting mouth of the opposition's condemnation of the government's decision to allow European Union MPs to visit Kashmir, the EU delegation said they had nothing to do with the Indian politics and had only come to collect facts on the situation in Kashmir.

This is the first time an international team has been allowed in Jammu and Kashmir since the government ended its special status and split it into two union territories in August. The opposition has questioned how foreign MPs have been allowed in the state when politicians in India have been denied the opportunity. The Congress stepped up its attack on the government terming allowing the EU MPs a "national embarrassment" and sought accountability. The National Conference (NC) termed it a 'PR stunt' and the CPI-M said it is an "affront" to Parliament and its sovereignty.
