Testimony of friendship between two democracies; President and PM congratulates Tunisia’s newly elected President Kais Saied

New Delhi, October 30: Showcasing the testimony to the close relations between two democracies, President Ram Nath Kovind and PM Narendra Modi wholeheartedly congratulated the newly elected President of Tunisia Kais Saied. The official congratulatory message by President and PM was released by Indian Ambassador to Tunisia Puneet Roy Kundal. 
 
“India and Tunisia enjoy warm and friendly relations. India is committed to further enhancing bilateral areas of mutual interest. I am confident that under your able leadership, our two countries will continue to work together for the well-being of our people,” said the President in the congratulatory message. 
 
 
"India attaches the higest importance to its ties with Tunisia. Our two countries enjoy friendly relations based on mutual trust, goodwill and commonality of views on regional and international issues. In the recent past, we have expanded our relations in several areas that include security, fertilizers, IT, etc. I am confident that under your leadership, we will strengthen our relations further for mutual benefits of our people," said Prime Minister Narendra Modi in his message of congratulations. 

 
Diplomatic relations between India and Tunisia were established in 1958. Historically, Tunisian leaders have praised India's democracy and have openly acknowledged India's support for Tunisian independence. Bilateral trade between the two countries accounts for nearly $350 million. Tunisia has also supported India's candidature for a permanent seat in a reformed United Nations Security Council.
