Dehradun, October 4: The state government is preparing to clamp down on even small Benami properties. The state government has taken this decision after studying the Benami property law of the Center and other states. Preparations are being made to implement this by giving tangible form soon.

After the formation of a separate state of Uttarakhand, if the maximum investment has been made here, then it is a land purchase. Huge money from white-collar to mafia has been put into horse-trading. His name is claimed to be Benami property in the corridors of power. In view of this, some time ago, Chief Minister Trivendra Singh Rawat talked about enacting a law to tighten the Benami property. However, it was not decided then that the state government would adopt the law of the Center or make new laws. Significantly, in the year 2006, the Central Government enacted the Benami Transfer (Ban) Amendment Act. Through this, it was further strengthened by amending the Benami Transactions Act 1988. The transfer of Benami property is prohibited under the Act and officers of Benami properties can be saved.

Now, after studying the law of the Center and other states, the state has started the work of drafting the Benami Property Act. In an informal conversation with reporters on Thursday, the Chief Minister said that the Central Government has enacted a law for Benami property worth more than one thousand crores, but a law will be made for Benami property of even less value in the state. It will be drafted soon. Chief Minister Trivendra Singh Rawat has earlier clarified that the seized Benami property will be used in public interest works like construction of schools, hospitals.
