Back on track after 100 days, Train services resume from Srinagar-Baramulla

Srinagar, November 12: Suspended for over 100 days after abrogating Article 370, trains will resume its service in the Kashmir Valley from today. The Centre had suspended it following its decision to revoke special status given to the state and aligning it with rest of India by turning it into Union Territory last month. Railway Union Minister Piyush Goyal shared the news by stating that the Rail traffic is being resumed in Kashmir valley.

 

Informing the masses about the decision, Railway Minister Piyush Goyal tweeted, posting, “Rail traffic is being resumed from tomorrow as the situation in Kashmir valley is normal. It is being started tomorrow by train journey between Srinagar - Baramulla. With the commencement of trains operations, the development of tourism and industries in Kashmir will increase at a more rapid pace.”

 

The Indian Railways has decided to start train services in Jammu and Kashmir, for the first time after the state was stripped of its special status and bifurcated into two Union Territories. Indian Railway Ministry tweeted about the departure and arrival of the train services on Srinangar-Baramulla route.

 

Train services had been operational between Banihal and Baramulla in the Valley since 2013, however services on this line connecting Kashmir to Jammu have been suspended following the Centre’s move in August to scrap Article 370 and 35 A.
