Boosting ties between Arunachal Pradesh, Indian Army; Rajnath Singh opens 11th Maitree Diwas celebration

Tawang, November 14: Accorded with a warm reception upon his arrival by Chief Minister Pema Khandu, Defence Minister Rajnath Singh inaugurated the 11th Maitree Diwas celebrations of Civil-Army friendship at Tawang on Thursday and declared it open. Defence minister Rajnath Singh reached Tawang on Thursday, and is on a two-day visit to Arunachal Pradesh where he will take part in a series of programmes.

The 11th Maitree Diwas will be celebrated for two days at Gyalwa Tsangyang Gyatso High Altitude Stadium Tawang. In a tweet by Arunachal Pradesh Chief Minister, Pema Khandu, he posted, “Extremely delighted to have our Hon’ble @DefenceMinIndia Shri @rajnathsingh Ji in Tawang today. A warm welcome accorded at Tawang ALG. Long live civil-Army friendship!”

Rajnath Singh is the chief guest at the inaugural function of Maitree Diwas celebrations, a multi-cultural social event meant to foster friendship between civil population and personnel of the armed forces.

The Defence Minister also laid lays wreath at Tawang War Memorial on his arrival.

Rajnath Singh will be visiting forward areas bordering neighbour China and will inaugurate Sisseri River Bridge in East Siang District on Friday. As the defence minister, this is Rajnath Singh’s maiden visit to Arunachal Pradesh.
