Mumbai, November 26: Again a twist, a major twist! BJP's Devendra Fadnavis on Tuesday resigned as Maharashtra's Chief Minister an hour after the NCP's Ajit Pawar backed off as the Dy CM. "We waited for Shiv Sena for a long time but they didn't respond and instead talked to Congress-NCP. People who never stepped outside Matoshree (Thackeray residence) to meet anyone were going door to door to make a government with NCP and Congress", Fadnavis said.

"I'll go to Raj Bhavan and tender my resignation. I wish them all the best whoever will form the govt. But that will be a very unstable govt as there is a huge difference of opinions", he affirmed.

"In elections, the clear majority was given to Mahayuti and BJP got maximum 105 seats. We contested with Shiv Sena, but this mandate was for BJP because BJP won 70 percent seats out of all seats we contested. Shiv Sena told us before the election, that they will go with anyone which gives them the CM post", he added.

This is after Maharashtra Dy CM Ajit Pawar, who stunned the NCP by engineering an alliance and a midnight coup with the BJP which saw Devendra Fadnavis return to power, resigned just a day before the floor test was ordered by the Supreme Court.

Earlier in the day, the SC ordered that the Maharashtra floor test be held within 24 hours tomorrow which will be conducted through the open ballot and will be telecast live. The court said the floor test would be conducted by the protem speaker after the members take oath by 5 pm tomorrow.

According to the joint plea by Sena, NCP and Congress, the parties have termed the decision to close cases against Ajit Pawar illegal. Seeking a stay on ACB's move to close cases, the plea seeks that the court restrain Fadnavis from taking any such decision till the floor test is done. The application will be mentioned after the SC's order at 10.30am today.
