Notification issued for fifth phase of Jharkhand assembly elections

Ranchi, November 26: Notification for the fifth and final phase of Jharkhand assembly elections has been issued today. Sixteen constituencies spread over six districts including Dumka, Jamtara, and Deoghar of the Santhal Pargana area will go to Polls in this phase on the 20th of next month. The last date for filing of nomination papers is 3rd December and scrutiny of papers will be done the next day. Candidates can withdraw their nomination till the 6th of December.


 

Meanwhile, scrutiny of nomination papers for the third phase is being done today. 364 candidates have filed their nominations for this phase. 17 constituencies spread over eight districts will go to polls in this phase on 12th December.

The 81-member Jharkhand Assembly will go to polls in five phases between 30th November to 20th December. Counting of votes will be taken on the 23rd of December.

Recently, the Election Commission team headed by Chief Election Commissioner Sunil Arora interacted with various stakeholders, reviewing the state's poll preparedness.

Chief Election Commissioner along with Election Commissioners Ashok Lavasa and Sushil Chandra held meetings with various political parties in Ranchi where many suggestions were made by political parties and also lodged their complaints. The BJP State General Secretary Deepak Prakash meanwhile said that the party had several suggestions for conducting free and fair elections abide.

On the other hand, Jharkhand Mukti Morcha representative submitted a memorandum regarding his grievances. Congress, JVM and other political parties’ representative also met the commission and put their points.

However, while meetings with civil administration and police officials are underway, tomorrow, Election Commission is slated to hold a meeting with other enforcement agencies along with the Chief Secretary and Director General of Police of Jharkhand.
