Celebrating 550th birth anniversary of Guru Nanak Dev, a ‘Jatha’ of Sikh pilgrims departed for Nankana Sahib in Pakistan

Punjab, November 5: Amid all the difference of opinion and the chaos mongering around between the neighbouring countries India and Pakistan, the nations have kept people’s interest on priority. Prioritizing religious sentiments and respecting the emotions of devotees, a ‘jatha’ of Sikh pilgrims departed for Nankana Sahib in Pakistan from Attari-Wagah border. This is in accordance to celebrate the 550th birth anniversary celebrations of Guru Nanak Dev. The jatha comprises 1,303 Sikh pilgrims led by Shiromani Committee member Gurmeet Singh Buh, Baba Charanjit Singh Jasowal and Bibi Ravinder Kaur.

 

An online portal for the registration of pilgrims has gone live. It is also said that Indian pilgrims of all faith and persons of Indian origin can use the Kartarpur corridor. Most importantly, he added that the travel will be visa-free and the pilgrims need to carry only a valid passport

India and Pakistan signed an agreement to operationalize Kartarpur Corridor on October 24. For the first time, non-visa movement has been initiated across the border despite tensions between the two countries. While Prime Minister Narendra Modi will inaugurate the Indian side of the corridor on November 8, Pakistan will officially open the corridor from its side a day after, ahead of the 550th Birthday celebrations of Baba Guru Nanak which starts on November 11. The corridor connects the Dera Baba Nanak shrine in Punjab's Gurdaspur with Gurdwara Darbar Sahib Kartarpur in Pakistan.

Also, Air India launched the first flight connecting Amritsar and London with ‘Ik Onkar’ painted on the tail of its aircraft for 550th Parkash Purb celebrations. The flight will facilitate Sikh pilgrims visiting Punjab on the occasion of the 550th birth anniversary of Sri Guru Nanak Dev Ji.
