New Delhi, November 8: Fulfilling promises made to the people of India who wished to visit the Kartarpur Sahib in Pakistan, Prime Minister Narendra Modi is all set to inaugurate the Integrated Check Post of the Kartarpur Corridor at Dera Baba Nanak, Gurdaspur in Punjab on Saturday. This will also help to facilitate Indian pilgrims visiting the Gurudwara Kartarpur Sahib. The Prime Minister will, address a public gathering in Dera Baba Nanak Shah in Gurdaspur in Punjab, about 3 kilometres away from the corridor.

Prior to the inauguration, the Prime Minister will pay obeisance at Ber Sahib Gurudwara at Sultanpur Lodhi. Several measures to ensure that the pilgrimage is carried out without issues have been carried out on the Indian side, including a state-of-the-art Passenger Terminal Building. The fully airconditioned building akin to an airport has over 50 immigration counters for facilitating about 5000 pilgrims a day.

A 300 feet national monumental flag is also being hoisted at the International Border. Former PM Manmohan Singh will also be part of the group of devotees. The Indian side took the initiative to put in place state-of-the-art infrastructure and open the corridor on the occasion of the birth anniversary so that pilgrims from India and people holding Overseas Citizen of India cards could visit the gurdwara in Pakistan.

Pakistan will open the much-awaited Kartarpur Corridor on November 9. The proposed corridor will connect Darbar Sahib in Kartarpur with Dera Baba Nanak shrine in Gurdaspur district of Punjab and facilitate visa-free movement of Indian pilgrims, who will have to just obtain a permit to visit Kartarpur Sahib, which was established in 1522 by Guru Nanak Dev.

India is going ahead with the agreement because of the sentiments of the Sikh community, which has for long demanded the opening of a corridor to allow pilgrims to visit the gurdwara at the site where Guru Nanak spent the last years of his life.
