Bengaluru, November 9: Time is changing and so are our thoughts. Hailing women empowerment and thrusting girl power, India robustly stood signifying the exuberant aura of a woman. Appreciating the same, Bengaluru Airport on Friday posted a video hailing their first-ever squad of woman firefighters, who have been inducted into their Aircraft rescue and firefighting (ARFF) squad.

The video, which was posted on the Bengaluru airport’s official Twitter handle, salutes the women who made history by becoming part of Asia’s largest squad of women aviation firefighters. The video is a celebration of the milestone, and shows how the feat was achieved.

The Bangalore International Airport inducted first-ever 14-member women fire-fighting squad into their ARFF squad on March 8, which is International Women’s Day. With the move, the airport became the first one in the country to have women firefighters. The appointment of a women firefighting squad marks transformation in the Indian aviation sector, which has traditionally been male-dominated, BIAL said.

"With the airport's second runway and second terminal set to become operational in 2019 and 2021 respectively, the recruitment of women will strengthen the airport's emergency preparedness," the statement said.
