Imbibing teachings of Guru Nanak, respecting sentiments; PM Modi inaugurates historic Kartarpur Corridor

New Delhi, November 9: Wearing an orange headscarf, offering prayers at Punjab’s Ber Sahib Gurdwara at Sultanpur Lodhi, Prime Minister Narendra Modi is all set to inaugurate the Kartarpur corridor that will link two shrines, one in India and another in Pakistan. The 4.7-kilometre-long corridor will connect Dera Baba Nanak Gurudwara in India’s Gurdaspur district to Kartarpur Darbar Sahib in Pakistan.

Addressing the people at Dera Baba Nanak, PM Modi asserts, “The opening of Kartarpur Sahib corridor before the 550th birth anniversary of Guru Nanak Devi Ji has brought us immense happiness.” The Prime Minister also thanked Pakistan PM Imran Khan for respecting the sentiments of the people in India inclined with Kartarpur Sahib. He further added that he thanked Pakistan for understanding the feelings of Indians and workers on the other side of the border for construction of the corridor infrastructure on their side.

Emancipating the message of Guru Nanak Dev, PM Modi said that after opening of the corridor it will be easy to take darshans of historic Gurudwara. Guru Nanak Dev is auspicious and inspiration for all the human kind. PM Modi says, “The Corridor, Integrated Check Post will serve thousands of devotees daily. Guru Nanak's teachings are being translated into various languages so that the next generation can also be enriched from them.” He also thanked Unesco for helping in spreading the message of Guru Nanak. After abrogation of Article 370, the Sikh families in Jammu and Kashmir can also exercise rights like other Sikhs across the country.

 

Further he added that together we must vow to imbibe the preaching of Guru Nanak, which are still relevant. Citizenship Amendment Bill will help Sikhs. Modi also said that Citizenship Amendment Bill will help Sikhs.

On his arrival, PM Modi was honoured with "Qaumi Sewa" Award by Shiromani Gurdwara Parbandhak Committee (SGPC) for the initiative to open Kartarpur corridor and other initiatives. This Kartarpur corridor will allow Indian pilgrims to visit one of the holiest Sikh shrines in the Pakistani town of Narowal without the need for a visa. Keeping aside the strained relations over issue of Kashmir, this landmark people-to-people initiative has been welcomed by both the nations highlighting and respecting the sentiments of the pilgrims.

PM Modi is flagging off the first batch of over 500 Indian pilgrims that will travel to the Gurdwara Darbar Sahib in Narowal district of Pakistan's Punjab province through the Kartarpur corridor, being thrown open days ahead of the 550th birth anniversary of Guru Nanak Dev on November 12.
