Ranchi, December 2: Meanwhile, campaigning for the second and third phases have intensified. Twenty constituencies will go to the polls in the second phase on the 7th of this month. Polling for seventeen constituencies spread over eight districts will be held in the third phase on the 12th of this month.
Star campaigners of different political parties are holding election rallies and public meetings in support of their candidates. BJP President and Union Home Minister Amit Shah will address two election rallies at Chakradharpur and Baharagora today in Singhbhum region. Senior Congress leader Rahul Gandhi will hold a public meeting in Simdega.
Jharkhand Mukti Morcha (JMM) working President Hemant Soren, Jharkhand Vikas Morcha chief Babulal Marandi and All Jharkhand Students Union (AJSU) President Sudesh Kumar Mahto will also canvass in support of their party candidates.
Defying the Maoist boycott call, voters queued up in large numbers at polling stations since morning to cast their votes. Knowing their right to vote and bring in a bright future for the state, Jharkhand witnessed an impressive 64% voter’s turnout at the first phase of polling in the 13 Assembly constituencies on Saturday.
According to the Election Commission, the polling per cent was 62.87 per cent. The highest polling 67.04 per cent was recorded at Bishnunpur and the lowest 57.61 per cent at the Manika seat. The 13 seats that went to polls are Chatra, Latehar and Chattarpur (reserved for SC), Gumla, Bishunpur, Lohardaga, Manika (all ST seats), Panki, Daltonganj, Bishrampur, Hussainabad, Garhwa and Bhawnathpur.
