Laudable and exemplary! Odisha wins first prize for constructing highest length of roads under PMGSY

Bhubaneshwar, December 21: Creating a worth emulating example, Odisha state has won the first prize for constructing highest length of roads under Pradhan Mantri Gram Sadak Yojana (PMGSY) of Ministry of Rural Development, Govt of India.

Odisha also secured the first prize in for constructing highest length of roads using Green Technology and third prize for asset management. 
 
 
 
“Rural connectivity is a focus area to ensure equitable development,” said Odisha CM Naveen Patnaik in a tweet. He also congratulated the officials of the Panchayati Raj Dept of Odisha for sustained efforts to skill youths & making them employable.
 
Odisha has also been adjudged as the best state for imparting short term training programs under DDY-GYK for the third consecutive time. 
 
 
 
As per the Odisha Rural Roads Maintenance Policy, 2017, rural roads constitute a whopping 88 per cent (pc) of the entire road network covering 2,19,675 km in the State. Of this, PMGSY and non-PMGSY roads constitute 36,128 km.
 
Rural Development department has spent around Rs 736 crore on periodic maintenance of 10,612.28 km of PMGSY roads between 2015-16 and 2018-19 and Rs 302.85 crore on maintenance of 2,856.65 km of non-PMGSY roads between 2017-18 and 2018-19.
