Road Transport and Highways Ministry said, microdots will enhance the security of vehicles. The notification was issued after consideration of suggestions and objections on the draft notification issued in July this year.
The invisible microdots will now come affixed on vehicles and their parts to prevent theft as well as to check fake spare parts. The ministry said it has notified automotive industry standards in respect of Microdot identifiers affixed on the motor vehicles and their parts, components, assemblies, sub-assemblies through amendment in the Central Motor vehicles Rules 1989.

The draft rules to amend the Central Motor Vehicles Rules, 1989 were published, vide notification by the ministry in the Gazette of India inviting objections and suggestions from all persons likely to be affected thereby. The objections and suggestions received in respect of the said draft rules have been duly considered by the central government; before notifying the amendments, the statement said.

Microdot technology involves spraying the body and parts of the vehicle or any other machine with microscopic dots, which gives a unique identification. The permanent and nearly invisible microdots can be read physically with a microscope and identified with an ultra violet light source. Use of this technology helps to check vehicle theft and use of fake spare parts.
