Leh, December 28: Showcasing their culture, tradition and ethnicity with utmost grandeur and beauty, the people of Ladakh region celebrated Ladakhi New Year, Losar with festive fervour on Friday. The region celebrates its grand new year with great enthusiasm after being recognised as a Union Territory, 70 years after independence. Roping the region under Central purview, various developmental projects will duly change the face of an emerging Ladakh.

Celebrating the festive, Ladakh Lieutenant Governor RK Mathur participated in the celebrations which was organized by the Ladakh Buddhist Association and Leh Hill Council, in Leh. Speaking on the occasion, Governor Mathur said Ladakh is made Union Territory with an objective of protecting the culture, tradition, ecology and economy of the region. He said, as UT Ladakh will be the Crown of the country.

Apparently, this is first Losar Ladakh Region celebrating as Union Territory. Our correspondent reports that Daring the minus 20 degrees temperature in Leh, People have gathered at Chokang Vihara for Losar celebrations in traditional attire. Celebrations began with a puja for world peace and brotherhood. LG RK Mathur paid homage to Buddha Dharma.

Lt Governor Mathur also hoisted the Traditional Flag, Tarchen to mark the beginning of new year. Artists from various parts of Ladakh region performed Cultural programmes and traditional events relating to Losar. As Union Territory, this year Losar is special even after realising the dream of 70 years and several sacrifices. People and administration took pledge for the over all development of Ladakh region on the Losar.
