Jharkhand: Re-polling being held in Gumla district today

Ranchi, December 9: In Jharkhand, re-polling is being held at booth number 36 of Sisai assembly constituency in Gumla district today. Polling has started from 7.00 am and will end at 3.00 pm. elaborate security arrangements have been made for the re-poll.

On the recommendation of a poll observer, the Election Commission ordered re-polling at the polling booth in Baghani village after violence erupted.

One person was killed and five others injured on Saturday when a group of people clashed with police and security personnel during the second phase of Assembly polls. Polling was stopped abruptly due to the violence.

The state went for the first phase polling on November 30. The constituencies spread over six districts of Chatra, Palamu, Gumla, Garhwa, Latehar, and Lohardagga. All constituencies fall under Naxal infested areas.

Out of a total of 4,892 booths, 1,790 were declared most-sensitive, while over one thousand two hundred booths as sensitive. Around 35 thousand Jawans of Central Para-Military Forces were deployed to ensure free and fair polls. Elections in Jharkhand will be held in five phases and the results will be declared on December 23.
