Tehran, February 19: Iran echoed same complaints as India, blaming Pakistan-based militants for the deaths of 27 Revolutionary Guards in a suicide bombing near the Iranian-Pakistani border earlier on Wednesday, February 13.

The Pakistan-based Sunni militant group Jaish-ul-Ad, which says, it seeks greater rights for ethnic minority Baluchis, claimed responsibility for the attack in the south-eastern Iranian province of Sistan and Baluchestan.

Iran had summoned the Pakistani ambassador to express its strong protest over the deadly terrorist attack. During the meeting, the Iranian diplomat referred to the growing number of terrorist attacks designed in and led from Pakistan including the latest terrorist attack in Zahedan-Khash road, and conveyed Iran’s protest.

“The Iranian official explicitly underlined that the Islamic Republic expects the government and army of Pakistan to seriously and resolutely deal with the developments and deployment of the terrorist cells and their bases in the border region between the two sides and not to allow the terrorists to create further insecurity and instability in the region and mistrust between the two sides through their terrorist and inhumane measures”, said official statement by Foreign Ministry Spokesman Bahram Qassemi.

“Iran also called on the Pakistani government to adopt immediate and appropriate measures to identify and arrest the terrorists behind the deadly attack in Zahedan-Khash road”, Qassemi added.

On Sunday, Pakistan’s Foreign Minister Shah Mahmood Qureshi called his Iranian counterpart Mohammad Javad Zarif to strongly condemn and offer condolences over recent terrorist attack.

“A specialized Pakistani delegation will be sent to Iran later in the day to hold talks with Iranian officials. Pakistan is ready for any cooperation [with Iran] to probe into the regrettable incident, and for joint fight against terrorist groups”, said the Pakistani FM during the phone conversation.
