New Delhi, February 28: China, Russia and India agreed on Wednesday to strengthen trilateral co-ordination and co-operation to bring more stability and positive energy to the volatile international landscape. EAM Sushma Swaraj, Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi and the Russian counterpart Sergei Lavrov reached consensus on a wide range of issues for cooperation while their trilateral meet at Wuzhen.
 
The three agreed to firmly uphold multilateralism and the international system with the United Nations at the core, as well as the basic norms of international relations including the principle of non-interference in the domestic affairs of other countries.
Ensuring the mechanisms developing in right direction, the trio further agreed to intensify communication and coordination within the multilateral platforms such as Group of 20, Asia-Europe Meeting, Shanghai Cooperation Organization and BRICS, the association of the five major emerging economies of Brazil, Russia, India, China and South Africa.
Noting that the trilateral leaders' meeting is strategically important, the countries proposed a summit for the leaders of China, Russia and India within this year to provide political guidance for their cooperation, the statement informed. “They also agreed to consolidate and expand trilateral cooperation, and study the possibility of setting up a mechanism for a regular defence minister’s meeting at a proper time”, it added.
Echoing, all three later said that, given the complex international situation, we should further strengthen our co-ordination and co-operation in peace, security and economic development, and jointly make contributions to properly deal with regional and international problems as well as other global challenges.
The annual trilateral meeting, launched in 2002, is an important platform for China, Russia and India the major emerging market countries to enhance political trust and expand exchanges and cooperation.
